Service Description

We are so excited to have Fergus O'Brien working with us, fresh off directing on THE TOURIST SEASON 2 starring Jamie Dornan which airs on NEW YEARS DAY on BBC ONE + BBC iplayer. Fergus was also a Director on HAPPY VALLEY SERIES 3 and in this unique masterclass actors will get a real insight into what it is like working with a top class director and how he likes actors to approach scripts on set. There will be plenty of opportunity to work practically in the session as well as ending in a Q&A. About Fergus: Fergus began directing drama in 2016 after an illustrious career as a documentary producer & director. For his first drama project, Fergus developed and directed the BBC2 single AGAINST THE LAW starring Danny Mays. It was part of the Gay Britannia season on the BBC to mark the decriminalisation of homosexuality and tells the story of the writer Peter Wildeblood (Mays) who was tried and jailed for being gay alongside Lord Montagu. It’s an incredibly moving and thoughtful piece that’s had unanimous acclaim and has been nominated for a BAFTA and Broadcast Award for Best Single Drama. Fergus has gone on to work as Lead Director on THE A WORD for BBC1, Director on the upcoming second series of Sally Wainwright’s acclaimed, GENTLEMAN JACK for BBC1 and HBO, Director on Series 3 of HAPPY VALLEY and Director on THE TOURIST SEASON 2. What will this Masterclass involve? In this masterclass you will be sent sides in advance. Within this workshop actors will perform receiving direction and feedback from Fergus. Whilst focus will of course be on delivering truthful performances when delivering dialogue there will also be a strong focus on how to ensure you remain active and alert within the scene when actors are not speaking. A huge focus of Fergus's work is creating authentic, truthful conversations and therefore a huge focus will be on how to ensure organic, truthful performances can be created but also maintained throughout what can be extremely long filming days. This workshop truly is such an exciting opportunity to explore physicalising and adopting truthful performances that shine on screen. 17+ Only (must be out of licensing) *Please note, workshop information will be sent out to the email address provided at the time of the booking so please do always check it is correct/please do also check your junk folder if you haven't received material or information prior to the workshop*
